107,000 Community Health Promoters take healthcare to the doorstep

For the first time, every household in Kenya has a trained, kitted and stipended Community Health Promoter — moving healthcare from the hospital to the home.

107,000
CHPs recruited and equipped

Kenya's health system waited for the sick to arrive at a facility, usually too late and too expensive. The Community Health Promoter programme inverted that.

  • 107,000+ CHPs recruited, trained and deployed nationwide.
  • Each promoter is issued a CHP kit — blood pressure monitor, glucometer, thermometer, basic commodities — and a smartphone running the electronic community health information system.
  • Promoters receive a monthly stipend co-funded by the national and county governments, making this real employment rather than volunteerism.

They screen for hypertension, diabetes and malnutrition at the door, refer early, and follow up on treatment. Catching a chronic condition at household level costs a fraction of treating its complications in a ward.
