Voter registration: what every supporter must know

Who qualifies, what you need, where to go, and why a supporter who is not registered is worth exactly zero votes.

The most enthusiastic supporter in Kenya is worth nothing on election day if they are not on the register. Cell coordinators should treat registration as their first responsibility, well ahead of any rally.

Who qualifies

  • A Kenyan citizen.
  • Aged 18 years or older.
  • Holding a valid Kenyan National ID card or a valid Kenyan passport.
  • Of sound mind and not disqualified by an election offence conviction.

What you need

Your original National ID card or passport. Registration is free. Nobody may charge you for it, and any person demanding payment should be reported.

Where

At IEBC constituency offices, at Huduma Centres, and at mobile registration points during enhanced continuous voter registration drives. Kenyans abroad register at designated diaspora centres.

Check and transfer

Verify your details on the IEBC portal or by SMS well before the register closes. If you have moved, transfer your registration to your current polling station — voting where you actually live is what makes a cell work.

The cell target

Every cell should identify every unregistered adult in its station, help them obtain an ID if they lack one, and physically accompany them to register. Turning one unregistered supporter into a registered one is worth more than a hundred retweets.
